On June 24th, 2023, the CSSL GenZ chapter of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University hosted a transformative event called TechDrive 2.0 via Zoom. This virtual session aimed to empower and guide aspiring IT professionals in Sri Lanka, specifically targeting post-O/L and A/L students eager to explore their career options and enhance their knowledge in the IT field. The event provided valuable insights and resources for students seeking to enter the IT field. TechDrive 2.0 was not just another informative session; it was an immersive and interactive experience designed to engage and inspire young minds. The event kicked off at 6.00 pm and continued well into the evening, with a series of captivating presentations and engaging discussions.
Renowned speakers, including Mrs. DU Vidanagama, Senior Lecturer at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Professor (Brigadier) Sanath Jaliya Wickramasinghe USP, Associate Professor at NSBM Green University, Mr. Thisara Weerasinghe, Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing and Engineering, and Dr. Ajantha Athukorala, Director of UCSC and President of CSSL, shared their expertise and insights into the current and future landscape of the IT industry in Sri Lanka. They not only shared their knowledge and expertise but also inspired students with their personal stories and career journeys. Their presentations helped participants understand the various career paths available, the skills and qualifications required, and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. TechDrive 2.0 was a resounding success, attracting over 90 participants from nine provinces across Sri Lanka. This impressive turnout demonstrates the growing interest among young people in pursuing careers in the IT sector. The event provided a platform for engagement, allowing students to ask questions and interact with industry professionals, gaining valuable guidance and inspiration for their future endeavors. The interactive nature of the event was another key factor in its success. Students were actively encouraged to participate in Q&A sessions and raise their queries, allowing them to engage directly with the experts and gain personalized advice. Adding to the excitement of the event, a raffle draw was held, offering participants a chance to win an exclusive CSSL T-shirt.
